Sheboygan Family Killed in Mudslide
A Sheboygan Wisconsin family perished in a catastrophic mudslide near Tifalmin in the Star Mountains of New Guinea. Mrs Yvonne Steinkraus and her husband Wally died with two young daughters Kerry and Kathryne as a hill collapsed, burying their village and killing 13 people, including 11 natives, in about 30 seconds. The Steinkraus were linguists with the Summer Institute of Linguists, living in the remote village of about 15 natives at 5,000 feet. They had arrived in 1958 and contributed to linguistic work in the area.

Man Killed in Auto Crash Near Neenah
Appleton man Ralph G. Roth 46 died in a 12 10 a.m. crash on Highway 41 south of Neenah after his 1969 sedan ran off a curve, struck multiple signs and a power pole, overturned in a field. He died of asphyxiation at Theda Clark Memorial Hospital. Surviving are his widow Gretchen and four children. Funeral services set for Friday at Brown Funeral Chapel Menasha.
