Roosevelt Signs Forest Conservation Hiring Plan

President Roosevelt signed emergency legislation to start a forest conservation employment program. Chicago's second bid to name a mayor after Cermak

Chicago faces a second bitter fight to fill the mayor’s seat after Anton J. Cermak’s assassination. The Illinois General Assembly assigned the election to the city council. Engineers and Lawyers Call a Truce in Fracas

Madison report says engineers and lawyers at the University of Illinois clashed over signs for St Patrick's parade but reached a truce. Engineers claim Saint Patrick was an engineer and vow to celebrate with floated signs while lawyers avoid certain issues. Canada Basketball Team in Fatal Wreck Near Neodesha

A tri motor plane carrying Canadian basketball players crashed five miles north of Neodesha Kansas after circling a tank farm. Five were killed and nine injured. Pilot A H Hakes co pilot H E Eggens and owner Jack T O'Brien were among the dead. Weather was clear and observers noted motor trouble prior to the crash. The accident occurred on the two year anniversary of Knute Rockne’s death.

Wisconsin Highways Impassable After Rain Floods

Many southern Wisconsin highways are unsafe or closed due to heavy rains and overflowing rivers. Highway 14 near Darlington is closed east of Darlington, Highway 62 north of Darlington is shut, and Highway 60 is impassable from Sadk City to Dale due to flooding. The North eastern Wisconsin Teachers association adopted a new constitution and became the Northeastern Wisconsin Education association effective 1934. A Chicago style tornado swept through east Texas northwestern Louisiana and southwest Arkansas killing 20 people and injuring many more. Fatalities were reported in Texas at Huntington Lindale Shelbyville Center San Augustine and in Louisiana Hall Summit and Arkansas Mount Holly. A Texas highway crew reported the storm approaching from the south tearing up trees and houses and missing a nearby vehicle by only a few hundred feet.

One Hundred Homes Surrounded by Flooding in Austin

Heavy rains caused Dobbins creek in eastern Lown to overflow cutting off a neighborhood in Austin Minnesota. About one hundred homes were surrounded by water and a three person family was rescued by rowboat.

John West aged 18 who yesterday confessed participation in five robberies here and in Kenosha county was remanded to the boys industrial school at Waupun from which he had been paroled. Earl Mall aged 19 was arrested today and confessed Meine as an accessory to the robberies.
