Chester A. Pingry of Oshkosh will become Wisconsin state specialist in reading and English for the Department of Public Instruction. He joins from Wisconsin State University Oshkosh staff and will start in Madison on June 6. Pingry attended a national reading conference at Maryland and helped form recommendations for the role. Roosevelt Pack 110 and St Vincent Pack 118 also reported award gains and plans for baseball season. Read Pack 144 planned a trip to Son Lime round house April 12 with Harold Elmer and Mike Stark receiving wolf badges.
Silver and gold arrows went to Brownlea at Oaklawn School Pack 117 Tuesday. Jeff Brown led Cubs in armor to defeat a dragon amid candy gum and popcorn. An April 6 basketball game between fathers and sons was arranged, and a bowling party for adults was slated for April 6.

The program operates in 35 states and has run in Wisconsin since 1952.

Oshkosh police started a parking crackdown in the A and P and Herb's Bar lots to curb noncustomer use by a teen bar crowd. One defendant, Donald Bielfuss of Waukesha, was fined 35 dollars after pleading guilty. Other defendants named include John Lallensach Manitowoc Wes ley Vander Velden Kimberly George Blanchard Brook field and Michael Hoff Mayville. Bond was set for further proceedings April 6. Ronald Crossman pleaded guilty to driving after revocation and driving wrong way on a one way street and was jailed pending sentencing April 8 or until car is disposed. William Schroeder was sent to jail pending sentencing April 13 after pleading guilty to driving with a suspended license and running a red light.
Gomer Horton, director of public information at Wisconsin State University Oshkosh, told the Noon Kiwanis Club at Raulf Hotel that enrollment could reach 18 000 by 1975, requiring about 1500 staff and a 25 to 30 million dollar payroll annually. He noted the university press office issues 500 000 words yearly, enough for 100 newspaper pages or five song novels. Alice in Dairyland Kathy Kenas also urged girls to join the contest.
