Reports from Hickman Kentucky indicate the Mississippi levee holding but rising waters worry officials about breaches. Across Kansas, Indiana, Wisconsin and Iowa, dikes fail or strain under ice jams and thawing snow as towns evacuate, farms flood, bridges wash away, and residents move to higher ground.
AP reports from March 30 that coal districts in Great Britain show large majorities favor resuming work. In Monmouthshire the vote is five to one, hundreds return in Warwickshire, with a general resumption anticipated Monday. In Glasgow a large minority recommends voting to resume.
Philadelphia announces a conference with anthracite operators and miners on April 10 as union officials in Cleveland expect a short suspension after the wage agreement expires at midnight Sunday. A ten day gap before talks and a referendum vote suggest a month of halted work in the anthracite mines, while bituminous districts report agreed essential terms.

Milwaukee March 30 An Evening Wisconsin Special from Madison reports Harry Daverkosen Janesville clairvoyant pleaded not guilty before Federal Judge Sanborn to two mail fraud counts, bail set at 4000, jailed while lawyers seek bonds. Authorities allege he promised to “furment the truth” in private matters using letters and ads from Wisconsin cities. Also Beloit’s Bulldog Joe Knauth pleaded guilty to mail fraud and four months in Dane county jail for selling loaded dice and gambling devices. Nearly 100 indictments returned, many against Indiana.
Four persons are killed and two men named Bshuter and Linebaugh sought explosives moments before a nitroglycerine blast rocked the Central Torpedo plant near Tulsa Oklahoma on March 3. Two boys were seen in a stream nearby as debris swept the area.
Frank M. Trew of Minneapolis pleaded guilty to the first count of the information accusing a statutory crime involving Mrs. Viola Walden of Madison. The court sentenced him to a $450 fine plus costs or six months in the county jail. he paid about $363 and was discharged.
The United States cruiser Washington reached St. Thomas from Santo Domingo. Secretary Knox visited Governor Limpricht on shore at 9 o'clock with no other formalities. He will sail tonight for San Juan, Puerto Rico.

In Whitesburg Kentucky on March 30 E E K Cook and Charles Candill killed each other in a pistol duel. Candill fell first and after a last effort fired at Cook, mortally wounding him before dying.
