Wisconsin Governor Pushes Higher Licenses and Coordinated Traffic Control

Gov. Thomson urged the Wisconsin Legislature to raise fishing and hunting licenses, impose a one dollar annual park motorist fee, and build a coordinated county-state traffic control system. He asked for a 381,413,097 Highway Commission budget for 1957-59 and 21,527,641 for Conservation, with funds segregated from the general budget. He proposed 30 more state patrol inspectors and 15 more drivers license examiners to boost enforcement and services, and urged establishing a unified county wide enforcement body and standardized procedures for coordination. He noted the counties should lead the first two steps in forming this system.
