Woman seeks return of children after prior adoption
A Milwaukee woman formerly named Wilke, now legally adopting as Veenah Peo, seeks to regain custody of her children Ellen and Frank Wilke aged seventeen and thirteen. Through attorney F W Houghton the case tests state law allowing adoption from Sparta State Home by consent of the state board of control. In 1892 the children were sent to Sparta with the mother’s consent, by order of Milwaukee’s commissioner of the poor. The petition was argued before Judge Cleveland in probate court and a decision is expected after deliberation.
