FAA Assures Funding For Winnebago County Airport Expansion

Congressman John A Race announced FAA assurances that Winnebago County Airport will receive federal funds within five to six weeks to extend the north south runway. He met with FAA officials, County Attorney Gerald Engeldinger, aviation counsel Robert Lester, and planned talks at the White House with an aid to the President. The amount was not specified. Race vowed to pressure for quick action to secure jet service capable facilities for the Fox Valley.

Yank Forces Push Deeper Into Jungles

U S forces moved deeper into Communist dominated jungles north and south of Saigon with little resistance from the Viet Cong. An infantry spearhead found a large cache of abandoned radio equipment. US Australian troops counted 335 enemy dead in Operation Silver City, most from air and artillery fire, as the 25th Infantry Division swept 25 miles southwest of Saigon killing one Red, capturing eight and seizing six tons of rice.
