Flood Threat Grows As Alaska Storm Raises Wisconsin Risk
United Press International reports the threat of record or near record flooding in Wisconsin intensified as a Gulf of Alaska storm could hasten rapid snow melt. The Minneapolis flood watch warned of possible record flooding with normal melt through April 7, while Milwaukee noted the storm could sustain rapid melt for the next 10 to 19 days as warm maritime air moves in from the Pacific.

Whitney M. Young Jr., head of the National Urban League, died at 49 after a heart attack near Lagos. He was in Nigeria with Ramsey Clark for talks with African leaders. a U S Air Force plane carried his body to the United States. Brig Gen Daniel James Jr commanded the plane. Young, Lincoln Ridge Ky native, long led urban aid efforts and urged radical action to advance black power within nonviolent aims.
