Dodges Brick Runs For His Life In Long Beach Quake

C A Williams janitor at the Ideal laundry recounted dodging a collapsing warehouse during the Long Beach earthquake. Naomi Ellers, a bookkeeper, was crushed to death as the building collapsed, while Williams and her husband escaped. The disaster spared more workers only due to a banking holiday slowing activity.

Federal agents raid large Milwaukee still

Federal agents raided a Milwaukee area alcohol still near a house of correction where a brother of the operator serves a liquor law sentence. They arrested Fred Brazalle after a search, he could not post 1000 bond and was jailed. Agents seized 25000 gallons mash 200 gallons alcohol and a distilling column. May Abandon Oshkosh Bus Service

Oshkosh may lose its city bus service as Wisconsin Power and Light filed with the state for permission to relinquish its convenience and necessity certificate. State awaits seven million loan from Reconstruction Finance

Madison reports a seven million dollar loan to the state is expected next week from the Reconstruction Finance Corporation. A half payment has been mailed, with the balance due early next week. Thousands injured as California quake devastates region

The southern California earthquake left about 140 dead and 2,000 injured with estimated damage near 35 million dollars. Long Beach bore the heaviest toll with 74 dead and 25 million in damage.
