Moves to Cut State Agencies
Gov. Gaylord Nelson urged two proposed constitutional amendments to reduce 73 state agencies to 20 or fewer within six years. One measure would assign administrative power to no more than 20 agencies. the other would let the governor initiate reorganizations with legislative veto. He cited federal-style efficiency and cited duplication and lack of coordination under the current system. Democratic assemblymen filed resolutions. Senate bills by Sen. Casimer Kendziorski set TVA investment clarity for savings banks and mud guard rules for dump trucks. Both houses reconvene Tuesday.
