Madrid reports mechanized forces under Gen. Jose Miaja breached Plaza Manuel Becerra driving back communist rebels. Official tally notes 14,000 surrendered since yesterday as loyalists claim dominance in Madrid outskirts and eastern villages amid heavy fighting and radio disruption.
An all night filibuster led by Sen. Michael Kresky blocked final action on the Budlong bill to abolish the Wisconsin development authority. Senators were kept from 7:30 p.m. to 7:45 a.m. as Kresky spoke for five hours. A truce sent the bill to a third reading with no immediate passage, and adjournment was set for next Wednesday at 11 a.m. The governor watched the clash from 10 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. with lawmakers debating the measure and its perceived ties to the so called Little TVA.
London reports push to halt Europe arms race led by Prime Minister Chamberlain. Trade envoy R S Hudson to Berlin could back token disarmament. Britain hopes limited aerial ban could open wider talks with major powers, including the United States.
Chippewa Falls Wisconsin and Lansing Michigan guides report Al fred Thompson Fuller alias Al Thompson is held on charges of obtaining money under false pretenses. He faces trial March 13 for taking about 10 dollars from Chippewa Falls residents posing as a book salesman. Warrants from multiple counties and other Wisconsin towns cover similar charges.
Washington reports that the economy group in Congress views the government reorganization bill as a tool to cut costs, echoing Grover Cleveland who tried to trim payrolls and reorganize agencies. Taft earlier funded a study leading to reports and recommendations, some later adopted despite initial resistance.

President Roosevelt said he would accept the resignation of Eugene O. Sykes from the Federal Communications Commission. Sykes, a former Mississippi state judge, was appointed to the radio commission in 1927 by President Coolidge. Wendell Berge of the Justice Department pledged a study, with Sen. William H. King noting potential Detroit investigation. Indictments against Chicago-area milk distributors and producers were previously filed.
President Roosevelt and Democratic leaders discussed a possible supplemental relief appropriation of 150 million dollars for the Works Progress Administration. Law officers from Marinette and Oconto counties pursued two inmates who escaped from the state reformatory camp at Amberg on Wednesday night.
