U S command reports six Vietnamese civilians dead and 26 wounded from accidental artillery shellings in Dinh Tuong and a mekong delta village. A separate Lang Vei bombing near the Laotian border is being investigated after 95 civilians killed and about 200 wounded per South Vietnamese officials.
A Milwaukee man identified as Clody Trons, 59, died Friday night after being struck by a car while crossing a street. The fatality raises Wisconsin's 1967 traffic death toll to 114, down from 141 at the same date last year.
A pair of men posing as electrical inspectors robbed Sig Johnson and his sister Effie, who live near Win gro, Kentucky, of 51000 after distracting them in their home. In a separate item, the Department of Housing and Urban Development approved a 141000 grant to Platteville Wisconsin for water system additions and improvements per Senator Gaylord Nelson.

The government estimates annual maintenance costs around twenty four thousand dollars, and officials say they may as well break even.

A U.S. Air Force F4C Phantom was downed over North Vietnam Friday night and its two crewmen are missing. The 477th reported the loss as bad weather limited strikes to 79 over the north. Eight American infantry wounded by a premature artillery detonation near Konturt. Marines in the south claimed 271 enemy troops killed near the DMZ.
The master of a Soviet fishing vessel seized by the Coast Guard in U S waters will be arraigned in Kodiak Alaska on charges of violating U S territorial fishing rights. The skipper, flown from San Point with at least four Soviet crewmen, faces court while the Storis had seized the vessel 40 miles southwest of Chignik.
Washington AP reports that most U S grain warehouses hold empty despite long surplus years as exports rise and storage costs bite. Government crop controls and ample production keep the United States as the world’s top grain exporter while surpluses shrink but persist for export or storage.
In Rangoon a meeting arranged with Soviet and French help yielded Hanoi terms for starting peace talks. Hanoi seeks immediate US bombing suspension and deescalation of the U.S. military effort. Thant confirmed meeting but offered no details, calling disclosure premature. The talks followed diplomacy involving Soviet and French envoys.
North Central Airlines launches prop-jet service on April 1 with Oshkosh served by one flight and a second morning flight to Chicago. Convairs converted to jets will use propellers for propulsion and the Winnebago County Airport schedule remains, aside from the southbound flight departing at 9 20 a.m. The Chicago arrival time improves to 10 19 a.m. from 10 32.
Former Vice President Richard Nixon, on a three week European fact finding trip, reports Poland denied him a visa to visit Warsaw. He calls the action uncalled for and regrets the Polish government’s precipitate decision. The Polish Embassy in Washington offered no comment.
Defense Department reports Army Private Patrick N Lyons, son of Mr and Mrs Francis T Lyons of Cooperstown Wisconsin Manitowoc County, was killed in action in Vietnam last week.
