Washington March 4 1911 Congress ends as Taft proclaims April 4 extra session. Senate filibusters and Cannon valedictory mark adjournment. Tariff board and Canadian reciprocity bills face battle as president calls for new measures and Panama canal fortifications are planned.

Miss Anne Berthe Grunspan failed to recover damages from William English Walling in a breach of promise suit. The jury in the New York supreme court returned a verdict for Walling after an all night session on the $100,000 claim.
Farmers and Merchants bank of Culberson Montana has failed and sheriff searches for cashier W H Bostwick who vanished with about $15000 of bank funds. The bank was owned by American National Bank of Helena and held deposits around $100000.
Washington March 4 Senator William Warner of Missouri whose term expired today was appointed by the president to be civilian member of the board of ordnance and fortifications succeeding the late Thomas J Henecks. The senate in open session confirmed the nomination.
The House cheered and sang as Speaker-elect Clark pledged to work under the genial rule of Speaker to be. Uncle Joe Cannon was introduced as the second-longest serving speaker and the only man serving thirty six years as a member. Cannon spoke warmly, and the chamber recessed at 11:30 official time for a fifteen minute break.
A fire in Mistreal Brothers store in Center Texas collapsed brick walls, trapping workers and causing six deaths. Dozens were injured, with several in serious condition, as officials searched the ruins and reported additional possible casualties. The dead include Mrs. C. G. Lack, William Booth, William Mull, Jack Davis, Clifton Woodson, and J. La. Crawford. Serious injuries listed include Wood Dimith, D. W. Pierce, Wirk Martin, and Marion Davis.

Alfred Braun, 20, treasurer of St. Peter's Young Men's Society at St. Peter's Lutheran, Milwaukee, squandered Sunday school funds on theater nights and rides. He is jailed in county custody living with his parents at 597 Pearl Street.
Milewauskee March 4 The Northwestern reports a contested vote by Rockhuld Telephone Company stockholders over an 85 cent per share offer and a $1 per share assessment to clear debt. State incorporation rules limit stock issuance and stockholders oppose the assessment as a step to extend capital.
A riot erupted outside the criminal courts building in New York after Giuseppe Siracuse was convicted of murder in the second degree. Tra Han partisans clashed, threats against judge and jury arose, and court officers with police kept order amid the disturbance.
An Associated Press report from Lexington on March 4 states a boiler blast at the Blackburn-Garmhill distillery in Breathite county killed three children and a man and injured six others. Children were reportedly playing near the distillery when the explosion happened.
Eight persons were injured when all but one of the coaches of Southern Railway train No 6, the Memphis Special, were derailed a short distance east of Bearden in Knoxville Tennessee this morning.
