Washington 67 The veterans administration undertook today the task of finding jobs for 300000 unemployed ex service men. About a half million questionnaires were mailed to veterans reporting themselves without work. They were asked to fill in the cards detailing the type of work and return them to the United States employment service by March 31. Brig Gen Frank T Hines said 1938 is a critical year for former soldiers. The American Legion Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans will help complete registers of the unemployed. President Roosevelt may urge industry to help. Hines recalled three achievements since 1923 when Harding named him director of the veterans bureau. Regional offices, hospitalization for veterans of all wars, and consolidation of pension, veterans, and national homes service. Since 1923 hospital beds rose from 25209 to 53051 and veterans hospitals from 53 to 81.
