Washington March 1 leaders from both houses meet with President Wilson to plot a unified approach to the armed ship issue. A resolution warning Americans off armed ships is planned to pass, while administration hopes to defeat anti administration measures in a heavy vote.

Senate Indian Affairs Committee adopts La Follette amendments to the Indian appropriation bill. Acting Secretary of War transmitted an adverse congress report on extending the Wolf river improvement from New London to Shildon Wisconsin. Engineers rule the 24.3 mile stretch not worthy of federal funding, noting upper river rail handling and limited waterborne commerce potential.
Fire in Milwaukee caused two deaths and extensive losses across adjacent buildings. Insurance estimated losses around £13 1s. Water and smoke damaged the August Kurz Tobacco and Baumbach Reichel plants. In Pewaukee Wis a blaze confined to Walker Rhoades shop and a barber shop, with losses about the same amid village concerns.
