Gen. Nathan F. Twining delivered a personal message from President Eisenhower to Marshal Georgi Zhukov in Moscow and then left to visit a secret Russian fighter base at Gubinika, 40 miles from Miacenw.
Egypt's Gamal Abdel Nasser wins a near unanimous confidence vote for the presidency amid his illness, receiving 99.6 percent support and expressing well wishes for President Eisenhower to return to duties soon. Twining visits Soviet base for jet display notes, relays greetings to Zhukov from the President.
In Nicosia two Cypriot youths fired a fusillade at British Judge Bernard Shaw as he sat near the courthouse. The judge was wounded in the head near the spinal area. a body guard failed to intervene. The attackers fled in a nearby car.
Vast crowds gathered at Nasser's office to hail his election and cheers filled the square as the plebiscite results declared an American type presidency with a cabinet and a single chamber legislature to be chosen. The semi official agency notes he will assume powers once results are announced and a major speech is planned tonight. El Tahra to be used for official functions only.

A four engine BOAC Argonaut crashed on takeoff from Kano Nigeria killing 30 of 45 aboard with 10 passengers and 5 crew surviving. Captain Herbert Tomlinson, a former RAF pilot, survived as survivors were pulled from the burning wreckage three miles from the Kano runway.
A weekend spate of drowning deaths across Wisconsin claimed at least ten lives. Victims included Martin Jensen in Green Bay on the Fox River, Donald Bluhm in the Big Eau Plain River near Colby, A Bigelow in the Menominee River at Aurora, and Edward Skupas saving his son at the Red Cedar River in Menomonie, among others.
Atsugi, Japan. The U. S. aircraft carrier Lexington docked at Yokosuka today on its first Far Eastern tour of duty since World War I.

Jeremiah O Mara a 32 year old UW employee was found Sunday night on the Madison campus with a deep chest stab wound. He was taken to Wisconsin General Hospital where surgery stabilized him. The report notes ongoing Icelandic parliamentary instability and possible coalition paths affecting NATO bases at Keflavik.
Portsmouth New Hampshire reports the death of Fleet O Mara a University of USN graduate who came to admire Admiral Ernest Joseph King He died in Portsmouth Queens College Flushing Naval Hospital at 77 after years of service in the navy and academia
