East Wisconsin Avenue Project Near Completion

Neonah. Concrete pouring on the East Wisconsin avenue paving is nearly finished as part of three PWA projects in Neenah. Koepke Construction will then pave Walnut and Canal streets. About 130 to 160 men are on the three projects including a pool and school addition, with progress described as satisfactory and deadlines set for December 1, 1939 for the pool and September for the school completion.

Nine Clear Days in June Show Heavy Rain in Menasha

Records kept by George J. Johnson the government lockmaster show only nine clear days so far this June with heavy precipitation. A total of 5.28 inches of rain has fallen in Menasha, and on two days the rainfall exceeded an inch. The complete month record lists rainfall on June 1 2 48, June 3 17, June 4 116, June 8 013, June 10 33, June 11 1.17, June 14 .40, June 15 26, June 16 46, June 19 12, June 21 06, June 22 50.

Sacred Heart Mission Club marks 19th anniversary in Menasha

Members of the Sacred Heart Mission club celebrated the 19th anniversary at St Mary's School social hall Menasha with Rev Father Ralph in attendance A covered dish supper followed at 6 pm The program featured hymns readings piano duets and inspirational talks The annual meeting opened at 7 30 pm with reports by the secretary Emma Liebhauser and junior club president Rosemarie Quella An invitation was extended to celebrate the 20th anniversary in Techny IL and Father Willinger spoke on the mission cause Prizes were awarded in the afterglow of the gathering and a committee led by Mrs F Magaiske organized the event.

Neenah report explains swimmers itch stems from parasite larvae rather than lake vegetation. Dr F C Brunkhorst notes algae presence often coincides with larvae, beach closures occurred due to wet weather but site remains open. PUBLIC SCHOOL BANDS HOLD FIRST REHEARSAL IN NEENAH

Public school bands in Neenah held their initial rehearsal this morning with the senior and junior bands meeting at 7 and the beginners at 10. Juniors may be promoted to fill senior band vacancies caused by graduation. Band director Lester Mais invited graduated senior members to join the summer demonstration converts and the bands were invited to play at the July 4 Riverside Park celebration by James P. Hawley post of the American Legion.

Woman who escaped reform school vows final fling later

Velma West, 33, who escaped from the State Reformatory for Women at Marysville Ohio, left a letter saying she wanted a last fling. She was sentenced twelve years ago to life for the hammer murder of her husband. The superintendent predicted she would surrender within a few days.

Condition of four injured improved after traffic crash

Four Appleton area youths hurt in a Saturday collision on Highway 10 near Menasha showed improvement. The crash near the Mike Probst corner in Calumet county claimed the lives of Madge Courtney and William Frawley. Hospitalized are Jack Walsh Eugene Killoren Jane Christensen Lois Schultz. Herbert Krueger and Lois Krueger discharged Tuesday.

Rebekahs Receive Traveling Gavel in Menasha

Twenty four members of the Menasha Rebekah lodge attended a meeting in Appleton and received the traveling gavel awarded to the visiting team with the highest attendance. Appleton holds it until September. A joint Menasha and Odd Fellows picnic is planned for July 24 at Riverside Park in Neenah. Norway's greatest disaster occurred in 1219 AD when a flood killed 36000 people.

Brigaders Return From Annual Camp Neenah Island Onaway

Neenah Boys Brigade members returned by motor cars and trucks from Onaway Island Chain o Lakes after a successful camp. Awards were given at a campfire with Harland Hesselman named the most outstanding camper and Don Erdman runnerup. Camp Os went to 13 outstanding campers including Hesselman Erdman Petterson Bart Redlin Ackerman Schultz Jape Weitz Kollath Kuehl Fahl Lillicrap. Champions were crowned in wrestling badminton ping pong baseball and sailing with Hesselman also winning senior ping pong and Kuehl runnerup.

Eskdale Horse Show Set for July 9 at Neenah Stables

Announcement today that the second annual Eskdale horse show will be held at the Jack Kimberly stables in Neenah on Sunday July 9. Sponsored by the Twin Cities Emergency Society.
