Haywood suffers toxic poisoning effects from morphine and cannot attend the morning session in Boise. Court resets to 1 20 pm with expectant turnout. two jurors still needed as selection nears completion. Medical attendants deem illness not serious.
Secretary of War Taft met with State Superintendent Arthur R. Vorys and his brother Charles P. Taft in Columbus. Officials gave no formal word on a state convention for Ohins preferred presidency. Taft toured the state house barracks, met Professor Caldwell’s mother, and planned a Canada rest trip. He will sail from Seattle on the Minnesota September 10.
In Guayaquil Ecuador three shocks at 3.20 a.m. sent residents fleeing as bells rang and church clocks stopped. The second quake was heavy and lasted about forty seconds. No damage reported in the city though interior damage feared. Washington Weather Bureau notes a distant tremor starting 4:47 a.m. lasting over an hour with slight amplitude due to distance.
The steamer Belwyn Eddy of the Shaw Eddy fleet sank in the Detroit River after a collision with the steel barge Maida of United States Steel. The accident left the Belwyn Eddy's Ricamer submerged near shore in about twenty five feet of water. All crew members were saved.
Findlay Ohio June 1 The circuit court unanimously holds Buckeye Oil a Standard subsidiary organized under Ohio law and liable to pay independent producers at a fair remunerative rate. The decision is hailed as a great victory by independent producers. Wade H Ellis attorney general of Ohio led the suit.
In Washington June 1 the AFL announced revocation of the International Union of Brewery Workmen charter for refusing to accept terms. About 40 000 brewery workers nationwide lose AFL representation and party central bodies and state branches lose recognition. The brewery workers’ treasury holds roughly $400 000 as a potential hurdle in reinstatement battles.
The Roosevelt train moved through Pittsburg at eight in the morning with a small crowd awaiting at Baltimore & Ohio station. He greeted the crew, chatted with officials, and police guarded the event. Crowds gathered in McKeesport and Rockwood as the president waved and spoke briefly, then continued toward Cumberland and Martinsburg amid rain and delays.
A Green Bay judge cut damages in the Soula Beach versus Bird Wells Lumber Co. case from 20000 to 5090. The plaintiff may accept the reduced sum or a new trial. If rejected, the defendant may allow the previous judgement to stand for 90. Attorneys P H Martin and Vilas Gateman Martineau represented plaintiffs and defendants.
In Austin on June 1 a jury returned a verdict for the state assessing 11,622 penalties in the ouster suit against Waters-Pierce Oil Co. The state sought remedy and the company’s profits were affected. The case proceeds to appeal.
George J Gould Joseph Ramsey Sr and William E Guy must pay John St Jonen of Ohio $546201 with interest since 1902 after a supreme court verdict. Jones says he assisted in acquiring 1060 acres of Ohio coal land, bought lands for 370000, claimed 90000 commission and expenses, defendants repudiated the contract.
Victoria June 1 The king in a mark of personal friendship and high esteem for Prince Fushimi has placed a warship at his disposal. The prince and party have accepted and will sail June 24 from Victoria.
Henry Johnson a middle aged Black man was lynched near Eeho Gi just after 160 men dragged him from a jail and hanged him. He had been arrested for attempting assault on the wife of a planter. Johnson had labored on a plantation and had worked about a year for Ephrian Pearra, a prominent figure.
Seattle on June 1 marked a holiday as ceremonies began for the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition planned for 1903. Mayor governors and Roosevelt envoy John Barrett attended. President Chilberg planted the first spadeful as the crowd heard praises to Pacific trade and Latin American participation. The exposition site covers part of the University of Washington campus, about 1.25 square miles in extent aboard Lakes Union and Washington.
Canton Ohio June 1 The dedication song for the McKinley monument in West Lawn cemetery will be completed at a McKinley National Memorial association meeting. Vice President Fairbanks Secretary of the Treasury Cortelyou and ex Governor Herrick are among attendees.

Special to The Northwestern Milwaukee Wisconsin July 1 A Wisconsin inmate Louis Dilay an employee of the Chicago Brass company in Kenosha was dining when a hearty laugh caused a piece of bread to go into his windpipe. He choked and died on the floor at about midnight. Dilay was thirty five years old.
Madrid June 1. The first anniversary of the king and queen of Spain was marked with a Te Deum in the palace chapel to give thanks for their escape from a bomb while returning from the church after the marriage. The king signed a decree authorizing introduction of a bill in the chamber amid the celebration.
At Northern Alate Hospital in Winnebago about 600 patients and 100 employees attended a memorial afternoon under the oaks. Leo Maton of Milwaukee urged patriotism and gratitude to all workers, with remarks by W A Gordon and others. The hospital choir and male quartet performed period songs.
In a Tennessee circuit court this morning, Isabelle Mayer v Fredrick Mayer saw Mayer held in contempt for wilfully disobeying a March 1907 order to grant a divorce and pay alimony and attorney fees. She was ordered committed to county jail until the order is obeyed, while attorney fees remain unpaid. The case also involved CG 1 Ange & Co and a referral on compensation for the attorney of the assignee, directing payment of two and 48-160 cents on the dollar to creditors who have proved claims before final discharge.
The Illinois Third District Court of Appeal affirms the Macon County circuit court decision denying an injunction against uniting the Presbyterian and Cumberland Presbyterian churches. The court rules the circuit court lacked authority to block the merger and that the matter falls to ecclesiastical courts for determination.
Lexington Ky Jan 1 A Jackson telegram reports Matt Sloan a notorious Breathitt county figure was shot and killed by Pete Stricklin at Umen after a long feud. Sloan recently completed a penitentiary term for a prior shooting in Breathitt county. The two men renewed their deadly enmity in a foud battle.
The president announced a commercial arrangement with Germany under the Dingley act reducing duties on about forty American articles. The State Department released a Corvelleux letter noting benefits to U S relations and potential reciprocity. Officials say Germany will grant duty concessions. Congress must approve any broader tariff treaty.
Louis Missouri June 1 Consumers pay 2 to 10 cents more per pound for beef as packers refuse cow and heifer payments until government inspection after slaughter. The rise follows a 1% per pound carcass levy by packers yesterday. Omaha June 1 Armour & Co buys 3820 cows direct from raisers under new packer rule prompting warnings from commission men to halt shipping until order is rescinded. The move marks a clash between cattle growers and commission dealers over direct packer purchases.

Two of the three Armenians sought in Father Kaspar Vartanian’s murder have left the United States. John Morldan and Paul Sarkteian were seen in a Canadian town, two days after the murder. The body was found in a trunk in a house on West Seventh Street. Detectors expect arrests as they pursue suspects into Canada.
General Ki rokki ends sightseeing and banquets in Chicago and Milwaukee. He visits Fox River County club in Geneva Street as guest of Col. George Fabyan whom he met in Tap an. He plans theater tonight and likely departs for Seattle tomorrow.
