Highways and conservation funds bill approved in Wisconsin

Blaze Devours Forrestal Deck Killing Dozens In Fire
A four hour blaze on the Forrestal caused by a ruptured jet fuel tank killed at least 26 to 28 U S officers and men aboard the 76 000 ton carrier with 4400 crew. Fire raged over a 41 acre flight deck as jets were prepped for strikes on North Vietnam. Crewmen hurled bombs and flaming fuel tanks into the Gulf of Tonkin to save lives and prevent larger explosions.

Oshkosh Cyclist Killed in Second Friday Crash
Edward J. Dempsey 17 died in a motorcycle collision on Oregon Street when a northbound car driven by Leonard R. Zuehlke 25 turned in front of him. Dempsey skidded 33 feet and died instantly of a broken neck. Zuehlke charged with unlawful turn. Earlier a 23 year old Oshkosh woman Marsha Meyer died when her car hit a tree on North Sawyer Street.

Ripon Driver Killed When Car Leaves Road
John E. Doers, 24, of Ripon, was killed instantly when his car left County Trunk K east of Oakwood Beach Road near Green Lake. Investigating officer says the front wheel pinned him after the vehicle struck a tree at 4:45 am. Doers was alone and thrown from the car. A passing motorist alerted a nearby farmer to call police.
