Quake Devastates Tehachap Town With At Least Eleven Dead
A California earthquake struck Tehachap sparing little. Ray Cloud of United Press counted 11 dead and 35 injured as rescue crews dug through debris in a 2,500 resident community. Some reports said 12 dead. The quake, described as among California's strongest, flattened the business district and left the town in ruins. It was felt from Santa Rosa to Ensenada and struck just before dawn.

Oshkosh Man Dies in Crash on Highway 41
Rolla E. Perry 68 of 11 Union St. Oshkosh, a Hart Supply Company salesman, was killed about 8:20 a.m. when his southbound car was struck by a northbound truck driven by Ralph Peter Flash 21 of Fond du Lac. Flash, who suffered leg and arm injuries, was freed with bumper jacks and taken to St. Agnes Hospital. The accident, at a site one mile north of Fond du Lac, involved the truck overturning and scattering gravel. Perry, born in Baraboo, Wisconsin, had worked for Hart Supply since 1941 after stints with Morley-Murphy Co. and an auto supply firm in Milwaukee. He lived most of his life in Oshkosh and was married to Lydia Niehoff, who died in 1929. He was a Mason with Oshkosh Lodge No. 27. The lone survivor is sister Mrs. Byrd Krembs. Funeral arrangements will be announced.

Vets Housing Funds Urged By State Legion
