Old timers recall no hotter day in Oshkosh. unofficial readings reach 102 to 112 degrees while official thermometers sit at 100. A persistent breeze offered little relief to residents enduring the heat.
Washington reports a heat wave with a 9 am reading near 105 degrees. The thermometer later hit a record 105.6, prompting Secretary Stimson to close the State Department this afternoon to grant salaried staff a temporary vacation amid a forecast of relief tomorrow.

El Paso Texas report states Rose Aronson formerly of Kenosha Wisconsin died by self harm after her body was found in a gas filled room at Mrs Fleo Sasyer's home. She had consumed poison and is survived by three sisters and a brother in Kenosha.
