Storms Slam Elkhorn Area

Storms with winds up to 65 mph hit southeastern Wisconsin dumping about four inches of rain on Elkhorn in 30 minutes. A Lake Michigan seiche produced 6 to 10 foot crests along the Michigan shore, with 18 inch rises at Kenosha and Milwaukee. No immediate damage reported.

Distracted Dean Driver Pleads Distracted Crash Defense

Eric Wynter, 43, told a magistrate in England that he crashed into a parked truck because he was distracted by a large amount of Jeg on display on a neighbor’s lawn. He explained the distraction caused him to swerve and collide.

Four Die In Collision In Adams County Wisconsin

A collision in Adams County early today killed four people including Melford Streeter his wife Dorothy and son Orville all of Nekoosa and Richard Miller 21 of Fond du Lac. Two others were hospitalized in Adams with critical injuries. The Wisconsin highway toll rose to 426 for 1963 with 471 a year earlier.

Fear 30 Lost As Craft Sinks

In fog on the St. Lawrence River the ore carrier Tritonica collided with the British freighter Roonagh Head near Petit Riviere St. Francois, sinking with at least 30 crew feared dead. Ten bodies recovered, twenty missing, six injured rescued, and a Transport Department inquiry opened to run for weeks.

Tax Records Bill Vetoed By Wisconsin Governor

Governor Reynolds vetoed a bill to require retention of state tax records at district offices in Milwaukee Eau Claire and Appleton. Wisconsin Republicans push budget tax bill despite veto threat

Madison AP Republicans in the Assembly passed a budget tax substitute calling for 80.1 million in new sales taxes and 37.8 million in increased income taxes to balance an 84619 million state budget. Governor Reynolds vowed to veto if it reaches his desk and urged the Senate to reject the plan. The Senate, also GOP controlled, convened to consider the measure with potential further conference action to resolve the budget tax stalemate.

Indonesian Red Presses For Dispute Solution

Indonesian Communist leader DN Aidit and party boss Udit said in Jakarta and Moscow that a world congress of Communist parties should help resolve the Moscow Beijing ideological dispute.
