Reports from Samara and Syzran describe a city reduced to rubble after a major blaze with hundreds killed. Incendiary suspects were lynched and relief goods reach starving residents from Samara and Saratov as Russia faces a growing parliamentary crisis in St. Petersburg.
In the house a resolution denounces the general government for secret propaganda inciting clashes and Jews as victims. It calls for prosecuting military and police officials of all ranks and expresses distrust toward the ministry with demands for resignation. Odessa notes Governor Kaulbars orders striking workers back by July 23 or face exile.
The Northwestern reports Milwaukee claim that Justice Marshall authored letters tied to J G Albright's rebate allegations. Madison officials say Justice Winslow denies knowing Albright and any dealings with his company. A Supreme Court judge sought a life insurance rebate in 1902. impeachment questions arise but no statute governs removal.
Berlin reports state that seizures of meat unfit for food at the Russian frontier led to customs and Prussian agriculture inquiries into inspection practices. Authorities note that packages were often not opened or inspected closely before stamping, suggesting exposure to diseased meat and tainted unborn calves. Changes to tighten inspection before stamping are being prepared for Bundesrat submission.
Mrs T M Walker an old Omro resident died at her home July 18 at age 78. Born March 7 1828 in Hubbardton Vermont she moved to Winnebago County in 1855 then Nepensing kin and Omro since 1866. Survived by husband and son Miller T Walker of Oshkosh. Funeral Saturday at 2 PM at the home.
Under police supervision an analysis of Mrs. Johanna Knudson's stomach is being conducted after she died March 17. The death certificate listed acute gastritis, but Charles Welser, her brother in law, suspects poisoning and awaits exam results.
Aged Bridge Square painter Al Haneke onboch received word he is heir to a fortune from his Seattle brother who died recently. The four surviving brothers share nearly £%,623, with Haneke onboch among the beneficiaries. Lawyers forwarded money to cover costs as Haneke, long a fixture in Bridge Square, awaits final settlement.
In New York on July 20 lawyer Burton W. Gibson, attorney for Mrs. L. D. Stenton, was arrested after a Bronx inquest jury found Mrs. Ace C. D. Kinnan murdered by unknown parties and ordered Gibson held for grand jury examination. Gibson, held at 925000 bail, sought parole in custody of his counsel. Mary Shippo, who found Mrs. Kinnan alive on a Washington avenue porch, testified in detail, while Gibson questioned her under cross examination. Gibson himself spent much of the day on the witness stand, portraying a confident, irritable, and evasive posture. He faced accusations of memory gaps about his dealings with Mrs. Stenton and Mrs. Kinnan, offering few replies. Later Gibson obtained release via habeas corpus proceedings, with further developments anticipated.

The Hartje divorce case resumes in Pittsburg on day thirteen as Mrs. Mary Scott Hartje denies intimate relations with coachman Hope. Detective Ray testifies about Hope’s deposition and mental state while Hope notes his four month absence and fear of punishment.
Mrs. Harry K. Thaw, visiting her husband at the Tombs, was bumped by a man in a crowd as she walked through the line. She was not injured and continued to her husband then proceeded to his attorney Mr. Hartridge's office.
Warren Bigier auditor of state reports two hotel firms French Lick Springs and West Baden Springs implicated in violations of state criminal law. He cites aiding delinquency by allowing gambling, conducting gambling on premises, renting rooms for sale of pearls, and renting rooms used for gambling. The case likely ends with a move to advance to the supreme court.
Roilin Marsden of Edgerton has been contracted to teach manual training at Webster Training school in Omro. He will arrive around September 1 to assume duties after graduating from the Stout Manual Training school. Also noted are a union meeting speaker and local political and social visits among Omro residents.
The Montana Zinc company mill in Bette Montana was destroyed by fire caused by a defective electric wire. The old Alice Mining company silver mill suffered a 195000 dollar loss with 360000 dollars of insurance. C B Wisner of New York was president of the zinc company.
Rafael Yabad, governor of Sonora, rushes to Mexico City to confer with President Diaz as Cananea fears flare amid plans by the League of Mexican Railway Employes to oust foreign workers on September 16, the anniversary of Mexico’s independence. Diaz calls governors to conference and orders readiness to quell any disorder.
Eastern League President Taylor fined Providence captain Jack Dunn $100 and suspended him until July 22 after Dunn allegedly struck Umpire Moran during a game. Taylor warned against any umpire contact and vowed strict penalties for such acts this season.
In Toulaville Kentucky on July 20 Associated Press reports a public reception for William J. Bryan. Local Democratic figures including John W. Verland oversee preparations as southern leaders push to make the event a major welcome following eastern Democrats.
The body of Mrs Fertha Riebe a teacher in the Nineteenth district school was found floating in a small pond two blocks north of Whitefish Bay by M B Carney at 5 35 Friday morning. The coroner was notified and the remains were taken to the morgue identified by a brother of Miss Riebe.
Thomas E. Stillman the New York lawyer injured near Lisieux July 18 shows signs of improvement. Doctors including Dr Mugnin of Paris report reduced fever calmer night and abating mental shock though Stillman remains seriously ill. Stillman daughter Miss Stillman reports condition is serious but not critical as of July 20.
The Wisconsin Federation of Labor passes a resolution opposing partial returns of stolen goods as justification for robbery and favors socialism. It condemns Samuel Gompers, urges elected judges, promotes compulsory insurance, and plans to aid laborers in Belfort. Victor Berger urges temperance and virtue amid debate on union labels and labor reforms.
Treasury officials begin accepting bids for 50 million dollars in two percent Panama Canal bonds dated July 2 1908. About 1 500 envelopes received with many bidders submitting multiple bids. Openings by about 30 clerks to classify bids. press corps may attend but no outside contact. Highest price bids get first allotment with priority to smaller bond amounts if prices tie.
Washington reports Guatemala is represented at the peace conference aboard the Marblehead by Juan Barrieu Arturo Ubreo Jose Pinto and Manuel Cabral all prominent Guatemalan lawyers. Cabral serves as secretary to the commission and the group expects a land conference in Guatemala or Salvador and aims to draft terms for a permanent peace without invaders. In Guatemala City families seek the body of General Regalarte killed July 11 at Jnecoro as the talks begin.

The first annual Knights of Columbus outing for the upper Fox River Valley will be held next Thursday afternoon and evening at an undetermined Ridge Point location with Appleton Green Bay De Pere Kaukauna councils and about 100 attendees expected. Oshkosh Fond du Lac councils abstain, planning a separate July or August event at an alternate site following last year’s Electric Park gathering.
