Murder of Pierson Halsey at Athens Farm Sparks Double Tragedy
Pierson Halsey a Milwaukee lawyer and Athens stock farmer aged about forty was shot and killed at his Marathon county farm by tenant Herman Becker. Becker then killed himself. The tragedy followed a farm dispute over hay and land conditions. Judge L W Halsey and Mrs Halsey faced shock as the family prepared to transport the body to Milwaukee. Becker a bachelor with one brother was found dead after the self-inflicted wound. The coroner ordered an inquest as authorities pieced together the sequence.

Two maids on board spotted rising water and items floating as a hatch opened. a rough seize caused the accident.
