In Washington the London naval treaty debate nears a final vote on ratification. Advocates of arms limitation push to finish, while opponents led by McKellar attack. Sixty senators pledged attendance. leaders aim for ratification within a week.
Lieut. F B Tyndall and civilian observer Jeff Langley died when a plane crashed near Mooresville North Carolina during a fog. The wreckage caught fire from a souvenir hunter who ignited a flare recovered from the aircraft. Tyndall was 35 and had been assigned to Kelly Field Texas to study attack tactics.
A New Haven monoplane en route to Buenos Aires from Hartford crashed after fuel exhaustion near O Bostwick, Ga, but all three crew escaped using parachutes. Pilot Randy Maslow and assistants James Garrigan and Garland Peed floated one mile to safety as the plane was demolished. The crew aimed for Havana then Panamanian refueling stops on the 9,000 mile non-stop flight.
U S Senator John J Blaine visited Madison en route to Washington to vote on the disarmament treaty and announced plans to campaign in the state. He met with Progressive leaders including Philip La Follette and declined to disclose his exact treaty position while in Washington he was cited as likely to support the pact. He also visited Secretary of State Dammann at the Wisconsin General Hospital and spent the weekend in Boscobel before driving from Washington.
David Overstein, once linked to the Purple gang, was found shot to death at about 6 a.m. today. He is the tenth gang gun victim in under six weeks. Police say he had recent liquor operation ties and was released from the state reformator months ago.
Chairman Jones of the senate appropriations committee said 2.8318 billion dollars, about 70 percent of last session's total, went to military purposes and war results. The estimate includes 511.225 million for the veterans bureau, 619.000 million interest on public debt, 635.324 million for the sinking fund, and 351.874 million for army and navy plus other debt retirement funds. Total appropriations across all items reached 4.8739 billion, up 808.692 million from last year, aided by farm relief efforts and a building program. He noted the public debt was reduced by 746 million in the last fiscal year and the new year began with a 184 million surplus.
A Big Four passenger train bound for St Louis left the rails at a crossing near Livingston after colliding with a car driven by Cuoco of Decatur. Two named injured were Cuoca and Engineer John R. Francis. four coaches remained upright and passengers suffered minor injuries. Traffic on the line was expected to be delayed about twelve hours.
Chicago Cubs defeat the Brooklyn Robins 6 to 0 in the opener of a doubleheader to decide NL leadership. Pat Malone pitched for Chicago before a 30,600 crowd with 19,000 turned away. Rogers and Harnsby to join the Cubs in the east Thursday, workouts continuing on left ankle.
In La Crosse Wisconsin Albert Kugler of the United Brewery Workers spoke before the Wisconsin State Federation of Labor, blaming prohibition for widespread unemployment. George Nelson urged elimination of home taxation, while a legislative committee proposed changes to workmen compensation, divorcee child protection, and unemployment benefits. A supplementary report criticized Governor Koerner for labor neglect and urged tax reforms and highway funding. A special unemployment committee was appointed including Sommers Kelly Zastrow Janda Kin ef Sheehan and others.
Rev. Stephen Cauturos, 35, of the First Magyar Presbyterian Church in Cleveland pleaded guilty in federal court to an indictment charging smuggling. Judge Simon L. Adt fined him 500 dollars and suspended a year and one day sentence in the federal penitentiary.
Prime Minister MacDonald announced in the House that two warships, the Queen Elizabeth and the Ramillies, have been ordered to Alexandria in response to deadly riots that left thirteen natives and one Italian dead. The government stressed neutrality in Egypt’s constitutional crisis and held Siddu Pasha responsible for protecting foreign lives and property.
Washington reports a new oil portrait of the late President Harding by Lis Mora has been placed in the White House entrance beside a portrait of Coolidge. The hanging follows a seven year delay after Harding’s death as Congress had not approved the earlier paintings.

Frankie Foster, tied to the Jake Lingle murder in Chicago, left Los Angeles today en route to Illinois with two Chicago detectives guarding him. The departure was kept secret to prevent kidnapping or attacks, with Foster reportedly taken to a distant location for rail transport.
A man led police to a bandit during a two person hold up of a bank messenger convoy in Canton. The bandit was killed and the messenger was wounded while transporting funds for the Federal Reserve in Cleveland.

The drowning death of Claude Bue occurred yesterday in Otter Jake as he attempted to rescue his brother Walter. Their sister pulled Walter to safety, authorities reported.

Three men were trapped in a Chicago sewer cavern for nine minutes before rescuers arrived. two were dead on reach and one man, Gibers, was alive briefly before dying. The accident occurred in the southern part of the city.
A boy wandered seven days in the wilderness near his uncle’s farm. He survived by foraging berries and was found three miles from the farm. He was taken to a hospital for observation as a precaution. Army and local services aided the search and rescue effort.
A warrant was issued today charging Harry Youden of Peru Indiana with fourth degree manslaughter in the death of Mrs Perry W Cornelius of New London after an automobile crash a week ago. The district attorney said he will seek Youden’s arrest. The coroner’s verdict found the death due to injuries from gross negligence. Witnesses testified the Youden car did not slow after the arterial sign on highway 26 and was traveling fast. The matter details were presented as the investigation continued.
The International Walther league delegates in Cleveland hear an official statement from Lutheran clergy led by Rev. Weidner of Bedford. The gospel body supports individual expression of opinion but rejects church coercion in state liquor laws. The 30 000 Lutherans conferere are urged to accept separation of church from political action, while continuing to oppose liquor control through church force.
