Landmark at Saxeville church destroyed by fire
SAXEVILLE St John’s Lutheran Church, a 58 year old frame landmark at the village edge, was destroyed by a lightning strike Thursday afternoon. The building had to be razed after the fire left walls standing but scorched. A bell and altar items were removed from the wreckage as firefighters battled the blaze. Parishioners may worship at Poy Sippi Baptist facilities while negotiations for rebuilding and possible dissolution of the Saxeville parish proceed. Insurance adjusters estimated coverage at about 10500 with replacement costs higher.
