Senator Yetnes K. Jots, chairman of the national Democratic committee, arrives for a two week stay with his daughter at Lake Minnetonka. He says he will issue a public statement on Charles Towne's vice presidential nomination when ready and declines to discuss any Lincoln conference decision. From Minnesota he will proceed to Chicago to resume campaign work.
Dime Savings Bank of Newark New Jersey shuts its doors after secretaries treasurer Charles Westerveit is accused of stealing a large sum. Depositors gather in a crowd causing police to restore order as President Orton prepares a formal statement on the bank’s affairs. Westerwell was arrested near Lyons Farms and taken to East Orange.
The Lancashire cotton famine deepens as mills halt operations and spinners cut back, with George Minwall & Song of Mossley closing for a week and others in southeast Lancashire producing on short time. The coroner's jury investigating Jacob Katt's death at the Wisconsin Avenue crossing of the Chicago and Northwestern line suspended the inquest until Monday at two o'clock due to a missing witness who left town. Evidence suggests Katt was struck about thirty feet from the crossing as two cars detached and none of the brakemen saw him on the track.
