Eight Die in Chicago & Alton Wreck Near Slater Missouri

A Chicago and Alton passenger train collided head on with a freight train near Slater Missouri 100 miles east of Kansas City. Eight people were killed outright and about twenty five injured as fire damaged the wreckage. Officials named include conductor Daniel McCann and engineer J. Anderson with others unconfirmed. Relief trains were dispatched and injured passengers were to be transported to Marshall and Kansas City areas.

Mandamus Sought To License Kellogg In Wisconsin

Madison July 10 The state board of medical examiners was served with a writ of mandamus by Judge Siedecker to issue a license to James Kellogg of Portage Kellogg who graduated last May from the College of Physicians and Surgeons Chicago and claims the right to a license on his diploma The legislature earlier passed a law requiring exams for all applicants not matriculated at Wisconsin colleges which Kellogg claims is discriminatory and unconstitutional The case will be heard Friday.

Wage Increases Set at July 1 Conference

In Youngstown Ohio a mid year wage conference between the Amal gamated association and Secretary Nutt of the Labor bureau of the Republic Iron and Steel company approved wage raises. Puddlers receive 5.25 per ton up from 4.97 and finishers gain 3 percent. The July 1 increase affects about 40000 workers including independent and Republic combine employees.
