Huge Diamond Theft Reported in Shannon Airport
A shipment of uncut diamonds worth 288 401 was stolen from Shannon International Airport over the weekend. The loss was not found for 48 hours. Interpol was asked to assist. Diamonds flew Friday from Amsterdam to Shannon aboard a New York bound KLM Jet. The Ennis Diamond Co. of Shannon notified authorities after a representative signed for the package. The thief posed as a diamond firm employee and spoke with a foreign accent. Ennis manager Paul Spitzer confirmed the theft but declined further comment.
