Milwaukee dispatch reports Fred W. Stephenson, killer of Deputy Sheriff William Cooper in February, had been hiding in Milwaukee with his father’s family for a week. He fled again using a milk wagon after trading to a buggy, and was being pursued toward the west as authorities close in on capture.
Special to The Northwestern reports Milwaukee July 8 that the Rock County Republican committee decided the Rock town delegation, voting Democrats, were not entitled to seats. In Porter, a tie was decided with each delegate holding half a vote, shaping the First Assembly District.
