The United States Department of Commerce lists Wisconsin general property taxes at 7,141,000 on public service corporations, with total assessed property valued at 3,867,458,000. Other classes were not taxed for state purposes, per a Census Bureau bulletin on state finances.
Chicago reports a sharp decline in tolls from Independence Day celebrations though fatalities from fire, gas, and celebration objects hovered near a dozen. Automobiles boosted weekend deaths to around forty plus with about 800 injured. Across states ten killed in Indiana, eight in Missouri, seven in Chicago, and other incidents including a crossroad crash in Pennsylvania and Niagara Falls area deaths.

Hugh Immell of Blair Wisconsin, brother of Ralph M Immell adjutant general of Wisconsin, died Saturday at Bradley hospital of bronchial pneumonia. He was 41 and a traveling salesman. The widow and child survive along with three brothers.
Paris reports Commander Richard E. Byrd likely to sail Leviathan on July 12 after spending the weekend at Le Touquet. He and companions Clarence D. Chamberlin and Charles A. Levine may receive the Legion of Honor for the transatlantic flight.
Madison reports Dr A M Carr resigns from the state board of control after appointment by Governor Zimmermann. He earned 83 1/3 dollars for six days of service though he did not attend a meeting. Attorney General Reynolds argued Carr is entitled to pay from qualification date to resignation.
Chicago reports the American Institute of Cooperation discussing plans for dairy cooperatives at its annual session. National and regional needs of milk producers were outlined by Charles W. Holman and H. H. Bakken, stressing self help, organized marketing, and cautious expansion to ensure producer and consumer benefits.
Applications to merge the Great Northern and Northern Pacific railways were signed in St. Paul Minnesota and will be submitted to the Interstate Commerce Commission soon. The three lines would operate as one system under the Great Northern Pacific company by lease and stock ownership.
Charles Marse, former governor of the Boston Federal Reserve Bank, died at his home today of heart disease. He was 79 years old.
