Pilot crash lands airliner with 42 aboard in dark
In a foggy dark landing near Bloomington Illinois a Southeast Air Carrier C48 on a Chicago to Oakland run suffered engine trouble. Captain Edward Raha pitas steered the craft to a belly landing in a farmer’s bean field, skidding 500 feet to a snowy stop with no injuries among 42 aboard including five crew and 36 passengers. Soldiers from Fort Ord were aboard. all were unharmed and later bused back to Chicago then flown west.
