A thunderous underground explosion ripped through the Paramount Hotel in downtown Boston killing at least nine and injuring about 60. Firemen battled flames as debris and water filled the basement while rescuers searched for victims and possible trapped patrons. The nearby Plymouth Hotel was also shaken but not set ablaze.
