Winds Hamper Hunt For Plane And Crew In Atlantic Search
Winds of 50 to 75 miles an hour hampered the air sea search for a U S Military Air Transport four engine C118 carrying 23 persons that vanished near Argentia Newfoundland. A Royal Canadian Air Force crewman was injured as their plane was battered by winds and spray in freezing conditions. Fourteen aircraft and about six ships were ordered to scour the area where the C118 last reported four minutes before it was due at Argentia base. The last contact was with a U S Navy patrol plane that spotted the C118 on radar prior to the disappearance.
