London report states about fifty insane patients died in a fire at Colney Hatch asylum. The blaze destroyed five wooden buildings in the Jewish wing, trapping inmates, while rescuers fought panic and searched ruins for bodies. Most victims were women. some remained at large.
Colonel Arthur Lynch, found guilty of high treason, has his sentence changed to life penal servitude in London. The Associated Press reports the decision follows Friday’s verdict and grants Lynch a lasting imprisonment.
George W J Lord of York New York died at his Paris residence after a long career. He was a member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Paris and formerly senior partner in Lord and Taylor. Also noted is Otis P Wilts a longtime railroad conductor in Wisconsin who died at his home in Mitwackere at age sixty.
The Wisconsin Clay Workers’ association opened its state convention in Green Bay. A Milwaukee delegation of about twenty attends as discussions on the current state lien law are expected to be held at the meeting.
In Dover Delaware on January 2 the sixth ballot for U S senator produced long term Addicks 20, H A Dupont 30, James H Hughes 21. short term Addlicks 19, Higgins 10, W S Hilles 1, D T Marvel 21. total 51 with 36 needed. No election recorded as one member abstained.
Paris corre spondent reports Mrs Fair caused faked jewels to be made and shipped to America to dodge robbery and customs. Her maid did not know they were counterfeit. A Paris jeweler identified the value of the full property as false.

Milwaukee jury tried John J. Brickley for embezzlement. after about thirty hours and two vote changes one juror stood apart saving him from conviction. Principal witnesses were Rose Jindzienski of St Paul and Brickley, a Superior real estate man. She claimed $500 was sent to place on property but allegedly secured by a third mortgage on his house. He may be retried this term.
Charles M. Schwab shifted plans after arriving from Palermo. He proceeded to Syracuse while his family reached Rome.
Madison scene marks unified bid for John C. Spooner in both houses with Brown as Democratic counter nominee Neal Brown praised for tariff reform stance. Crowds expected at joint session. vote totals show Spooner ahead 30 to 3 in senate and 73 to 23 in assembly amid political caucus unanimity.

A mob of about five hundred people seized a Chicago and Northwestern coal train at Webster on the Wisconsin division last night and dumped the contents of five cars. Women led the assault by uncoupling cars and intimidating the crew. Police finally restored order after a three hour scramble as the crowd swelled beyond a thousand. Three women and two men were arrested.
