Plane Lands Safely After Fuel Runout Near Oshkosh

A twin engine military aircraft landed safely in a field southwest of Oshkosh after fuel ran low. Capt. Gerald Dickson of the Lawrence College ROTC and three other military men escaped unhurt. The plane, en route from Dayton to Madison with stops including Appleton, had sufficient fuel at the start but ran dangerously low on the Oshkosh leg.

Six Newsmen Are Taken On Tour of Cuba

Six American newsmen visiting Cuba on a pooled assignment were guided by Raul Lazo and Antonio Cardoso through Havana in late model cars. The tour highlighted apparent shortages as cars and parts were hard to obtain, with several vehicles breaking down during the drive through Miramar and Cubanacan districts.

Sour Deed Destroys Lemon Tree in Los Angeles Yard

Sam Fraiger, 43, laments a sour day after two men dug up his nine foot lemon tree in his backyard Friday. A neighbor witnessed the act and described being startled and unable to act as the tree vanished from the yard.

Dock Strikers Return to Work in New York Harbor

Longshoremen ended a 34 day strike by returning to work in New York harbor and along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts. About 60,000 workers resumed duties as crews prepared to unload cargo from ships including the liner Italia. Killer Freeze Breaks Leaves Midwest in Snowbound Crisis

A historic eight day killer freeze paralyzed much of the Ohio valley and Midwest. More than 200 deaths are blamed on the bitter cold and related weather. White House Receives More Cash Gifts for Refurbishing
