Death of Oshkosh Pioneer Herbert W Bammessel
Herbert W. Bammessel died this morning at 73 in Oshkosh after years of declining health and a recent bed confinement. Born May 1, 1825 in Nuremberg Germany, he immigrated to Milwaukee then moved to Oshkosh in 18__, serving as alderman in the 60s and working as an early cigar maker. He helped run the old national hotel and was a charter member of the German Odd Fellows lodge and the North Side Turner society. Survived by eight children and thirteen grandchildren, the funeral is slated for Sunday afternoon.
