Utility Will Conduct Full Investigation In Menasha Blast
John McLean vice president of Wisconsin Michigan Power Co said the private utility will conduct a full scale investigation into the Sunday blast and fire at Mrs Theresa Sobiesczyk 981 Clover St Menasha. A metallurgist and other experts have been hired and PSC officials plan separate inquiries. Fire Marshal Earl Schwabe and local fire officials assisted at the scene. Evidence suggests a two inch steel wrapped pipe outside the home cracked after being laid five feet underground and 21 inches below frost level. Leakage outside the home hampered controls during firefighting and internal valve shut off ceased the interior leak assumption. The company received the initial call at 1255 p m the response truck arrived at 110 p m and an area employee was on the scene already. McLean stressed they aim to determine the explosion cause.

An explosion believed caused by a gas leak gutted Theresa Sobiesczyk’s home at 981 Clover St Town of Menasha injuring two adults and a two year old, Shawn Sobiesczyk, who suffered extensive second and third degree burns. The child remains in critical condition at Theda Clark Hospital as family members, including Jerome Sobiesczyk and a grandmother, were treated for burns. Neighbors aided in transporting the four occupants to the hospital.
