Two Oshkosh Girls Die In Snowmobile Crash
Two young Oshkosh sisters Cheryl Rogge seven and Elizabeth Mauritz twelve died when their 1973 snowmobile surged into a low bridge on Spring Brook west of Oshkosh. The accident occurred as fathers watched. the vehicle reportedly accelerated to about 50 mph after the younger girl confused the throttle for the brake. Both girls died en route to Mercy Medical Center from severe facial fractures. Authorities noted it was Winnebago County’s first snowmobile fatality. Elizabeth Mauritz, a sixth grader at Perry Tipler Middle School, was active in Orchestra and Girl Scouts. Cheryl Rogge, a Oakwood School second grader, was a Bluebird.

Milwaukee AP reports a DNR study of 1500 Wisconsin hunters shows most hunt for outdoor access and nature. Deer hunting with a gun leads at 84 percent, followed by upland birds 58 percent and small mammals 57 percent. archer and predator hunts also noted.
