33 Chute To Safety From Flying Boxcar
A 33 man Operation Snowbird paratroop drop over Ladd Air Force Base Fairbanks Alaska ended with all safely on the ground after one engine failed. First Lt Robert Bruckner ordered the men to jump while the aircraft returned to base and the six man crew landed the craft. Pvt Richard C Welch recalled the jump as safer than expected and the unit’s members were from the 30rd RCT Support Co Camp Campbell Kentucky. The flight originated from Sewart Air Force Base Tennessee as the final leg of a three thousand man exercise beginning Monday. The crew was from the 5th Treeo Carrier Squadron Charleston South Carolina.
