Marines Move to Binh Gia to Hold Communists at Bay
SAIGON Vietnam AP The entire Vietnamese marine corps moved toward embattled Binh Gia to hold the area from the Viet Cong. Four battalions totaling 2500 men began transfer to a Catholic refugee settlement 40 miles east of Saigon where government forces this month suffered their worst defeat of the war. Some advisers call the plan a mistake while others say it keeps the road to Cap St Jacques open and may raise morale after the Binh Gin Six defeat. American casualties include dead and captured in the nine day battle totaling about 500 government casualties.

Police Chief Beaten After Stopping Auto
Reeseville Wisconsin AP reports police chief William Stark, 46, was beaten by two men after stopping their speeding car on a road outside the Dodge County community. The assailants damaged the squad car, stole the service revolver and radio, and fled. Stark, uninjured enough to call for help, was taken to a Juneau hospital for observation. Local sheriff’s deputies ordered a search for the identified suspects.

Trains Collide in Sterling Five Die
Five trainmen died in a head on collision between an Erie Lackawanna freight and a Baltimore and Ohio train at a diagonal crossing near Sterling Ohio. Two Erie Lackawanna crew members Don Matney and Carl Porter were killed along with three from the B and O including C R Duckworth conductor C 8 Williams and crewman C 8 Dru schel. Authorities said one train apparently failed to observe a stop light and both crews tried to avoid the wreck. Car Plunges Through Ice Killing Two in Delavan
Two men from Aurora Illinois died when their car broke through Delavan Lake ice and sank into thirty feet of water. Thomas E Holt 27 and Orville W Lindo 58 were passengers. Holt was recovered by Walworth County divers at 3 34 p.m. Lindo escaped from the submerged car about half an hour later. Witnesses said the vehicle remained moving about 208 feet from the southeast shore as fishing activity continued nearby.
