Washington Democratic party leader John J. Raskob urges a showdown on the prohibition issue urging adoption of a 1932 platform plank. He calls on Democratic senators and congressmen to vote for a national referendum style stance.
Washington, D. C. A Democrat backed amendment would allow states to control manufacture transport import and sale of intoxicating beverages within their borders and export to others if approved by state referendums. Raskob seeks ratification by state conventions elected for the purpose by popular vote. He warns the party faces wreck if the issue is not confronted.
Leo Krause, 26, was found dead on the second floor of his farm home east of Pittsville after a fire started while he was cutting wood. His mother alerted him, flames were heard, and firefighters recovered his badly burned body despite efforts to save the structure.
Wisconsin cold and cloudy with snow in the north and along Lake Michigan. Michigan reports strong westerly winds diminishing Thursday with continued cloudy skies and snow in extreme north and along the east shore. St Paul Minnesota reports the heaviest snowfall since 1928 with up to 15 inches in the south and seven inches in the Twin Cities amid ongoing accumulation. La Crosse Wisconsin digs out from about 7 inches as weather delays traffic and daily activity across several states.
Assemblyman William A Meyer of Oshkosh introduced a joint Wisconsin legislature resolution asking Congress to maintain Lake Winnebago at 15 inches above the Menasha dam crest. The measure slated for consideration tomorrow notes municipalities around the lake benefited from sewerage systems built on the 15 inch level and calls for federal action.

Wisconsin secretary of state Theodore Dammann backs moving motor vehicle registration from February 1 to April 1 this year. The change, urged by Assemblyman Walter P. Madison reports a senate resolution seeks testimony under oath from Ekern unemployment relief, highway and industrial commission members about the grade crossing elimination program. Sen Roberts introduced the plan after a legislative criticism by Sen Goodland accusing the governor of a near state scandal. The move aims to show results to the senate and the public.
Washington report states Senator Blaine Republican Wisconsin blocked Senate action on the 2 billion reconstruction finance corporation bill by objecting, delaying unanimous consent.
