Also Norfolk & Western No 3 passenger wreck at Panther WV left Engineer W S Bishop dead and Fireman Coontz fatally injured.

Lima Ohio December 12 a verdict of seven dollars was returned against L N Michie and Gus Alb vice president and cashier of the American National Bank in a suit brought by the board of directors. The bank was robbed last December with a time lock set yet vault doors open on opening day. The defendants testified doors were locked Saturday night but experts contradicted this claim. The case rests on negligence.
Washington December 12 The Senate in executive session confirmed the nomination of Leonard Wood to be major general of volunteers.
The decree from the congregation of rites proclaims January 1 1900 the start of the twentieth century and allows midnight mass on December 31 1899 in all churches. Roman Catholics may receive communion during this mass and a special rite is described for the circumsion and Christmas octave. Pope Leo XIII grants these privileges to mark a fervent new century.
