Lorain court grand jury hears Chadwick forged note case amid missing main witness. A. B. Spear testimony continues. subpoenas filed for Monday in Ohio. Mrs Chadwick identified in photos in Boston and awaits Cleveland hearing as federal actions unfold.
In Neenah on December 10, John Herziger sues William Edwards over an alleged armed confrontation in a Commercial street saloon. Edwards denied drawing the revolver. Herziger testified Edwards hid the weapon, Edwards claimed it was in his hip pocket for self defense after threats from strikers. Herziger pleaded, Edwards faced a fine and jail costs. Edwards released after payment. District attorney Carl D. Jackson led the case with Earl P. Finch defense.
A Cleveland dispatch reports President Beckwith of the wrecked Citizens Bank of Oberlin says Mrs. Chadwick secured millions in loans by a written promise that the bank would oversee her $5 million estate, to be turned over July 1, 1903. Beckwith and cashier Spear were promised $10,000 yearly plus a near 340,000 bonus after loans were repaid, while Chadwick allegedly claimed kinship to Andrew Carnegie to intimidate the bankers.
Associated Press reports a daring downtown robbery at 1:20 pm by three men in slouch hats who demanded money from teller Frederick A. Baker, grabbing about $500 in currency and silver. They fled in a bagged horse and chased by a large crowd. another incident in Altoona, Pa., saw two masked men rob a coal office of $2,000.

Snow spread across the Ohio Valley from Charleston West Virginia to Kentucky with up to eight inches in the mountains. Cincinnati received two inches on the ground while Portsmouth Ohio and Point Pleasant and Huntington West Virginia reported one to six inches. The season’s first heavy snow hit the lower Ohio valley and the Blue Grass region of Kentucky.

An Oshkosh group formed the preliminary chapter of the American Institute of Hank Clerka at the Old National Bank. Officers elected include President J. B. W J Pitcher urged character building, warning against intoxicants and lying, and stressing daily prayer. Upcoming events include a debating club meeting, glee club rehearsal, and open house plans for New Year’s day.
Judge G W Burnell admonished jurors after Fred Cox was found talking with witness Charles Wilcox during the Sarah Hallam versus village of Omro trial. Cox was dismissed and the court warned others that repeats would be punished. An affidavit from M H Maton supported the complaint. The incident was considered closed but noted as a cautionary example.
Cleveland, Dec. 10 The Plain Dealer reports that Mrs. Cassie L Chadwick’s trust securities, held by Stry Reynolds and banks, include forged notes supposedly signed by Andrew Carnegie. The notes total about 1.75 million, with certificates claiming Carnegie possession of stocks and bonds totaling 7.5 million. The alleged securities, seen as Chadwick’s financial base, are declared worthless by lawyers, wrecking Oberlin bank trusts and harming many creditors. Reynolds, a longtime guardian, is exposed as duped, and Chadwick’s system collapses without external aid.
