Senator Clay of Crorain, who on Sunday suffered an attack of acute indigestion, is reported today to be much improved. The update comes from Associated Press dispatches out of Washington, D. C.
A violent storm wrecked the steamer Lunenberg near Anthe Magdalen Island. Eleven aboard perished, including Veshe of the Canadian parliament. Five survivors reached shore after rowing in calmer seas, while the rest abandoned ship as it broke up. Captain Pride of Lunentyrg survived by clinging to a lifeboat until rescue.
The annual president’s message was read before the Senate and House of Representatives after a White House briefing. Senate members greeted the president’s greeting and observed a moment of silence for a late colleague. The House, with full attendance, prepared to hear Roosevelt’s message read at noon, with printed copies distributed and members listening intently.

An freight train from Grove Northern collided with a Northern Pacific passenger train two miles from St Cloud Minnesota. The crash overturned a rear coach, injuring several people though none killed. The passenger train continued to St Paul Brainerd after the collision while Great Northern freight cars blocked the Northern Pacific track.
New York December 5 Charles A Peabody is expected to be elected president of the Mutual Life Insurance Company at tomorrow's board meeting. Frederic Cromwell, president pro tempore, urges Peabody to accept. Peabody holds interests in several financial institutions and is the American representative of William Waldorf Astor.
Governor La Follette appeared before the extraordinary session and read a lengthy message on public service corporations and railroads. He seeks reforms to the railroad rate commission, tax collection, and broader investigations into corporate expenditures, with emphasis on transparency and safeguards at crossings. Superior Wisconsin endures a fierce November storm causing 400000 with repairs and drydock work planned all winter. Nineteen steamers including Crescent City Corey Ellwood and England need costly repairs after storm damage. The Ellwood will require 50000 to 75000 and Crescent City is also heavily damaged. The Frank Rockefeller in drydock and Branford awaits its turn as crews stay busy.
An aged Keynosh County farmer, Flo, about sixty five, described as one of the oldest in the area, died after an incident where a person named Andy fell headlong into a well. The report notes age and local standing of Flo among Keynos h county residents.
The president sent nominations to the Senate for Secretary of State Elihu Root of New York Secretary of the Navy Charles Joseph Bonaparte of Maryland United States Attorney William C Bristol for the District of Oregon Marshal James F Shea of North Dakota and Interstate Commerce Commissioner Franklin K Taine of California. A petition to pension the lonely asks Congress to direct monthly payments of 39 to 40 dollars to anyone left alone who cannot support themselves.

Milwaukee report says highwaymen operated west of Racine last night. Henry Peterson and Howard Davidson drove home when a gun was pointed at them. they escaped by whipping up the horse. The robbers then entered Fred Peterson’s farmhouse and held him up at revolver point, forcing him to surrender a large sum of money.
Associated Press report says Girard Run Dec 5 Berry remains in disputed railway coach seat, barricaded since Friday. She left the format room for a drink today, refuses food, talks with guards, threatening to kill her enemies but not everyone. Plains for capture continue.
In Kenosha County near Brighton Wisconsin an elderly farmer identified as John Weissmann left home with two water pails and disappeared after slipping into a five foot well containing about one and a half feet of water. His body was recovered with help from a neighbor.
Judge Mandel today made permanent the injunction granted to the Detroit Employing Printers Association. The order stops members of Detroit Typographical Union No. 18 from interfering with business by boycott or other means.
Associated Press dispatch from Charleston West Virginia notes a disastrous fire at Wayne court house causing widespread excitement in Pees with details not yet received and no further particulars available.
New York December 5. George D Eldredge of Mutual Reserve Life testified before the insurance investigating committee that 15000 was paid to a Philadelphia man to oppose removing Frederick A Burnham as president. McClelland testified he never worked for Equitable and explained a voucher for 4200 tied to a water account. Eldredge described agent salaries and advances, noting pressure from policy holders who criticized Burnham and prompted talks of a receiver.
A protest signed by ninety Fifth district citizens will be presented in the house by Representative Rainey seeking seating removal of Anthony Michatek on grounds he is an alien. A special investigating committee will be asked for.
