Senator McCarthy denies challenging President Eisenhower's GOP leadership while reaffirming support for the Republican party. He criticizes policy toward aiding allied nations and argues for room to differ, urging Dulles to reassess policy and suggesting potential change.

Coast Guard says she lifted two feet on the shoals but is not in immediate danger and not endangering navigation. Owned by Garland Steamship Co. of Chicago, the Sullivan was en route to winter docking with grain, likely Buffalo.
An 86 year old East Berlin woman received the 200000th pound of American donated butter today for aged Germans in the Soviet sector. She also was given an extra pound as part of a welfare aid program distributed to East Berliners over 60 through the Ernest Reuter Foundation and the International Rescue Committee.
Senate investigators heard harrowing testimony from Korean War POWs including Wendell Treffery who described breaking his own toe bones to avoid death in a filthy hospital stall. Treffery testified of 500 Americans who died at Camp No 1 near the Yalu. Senator Potter praised the disclosures as a defining moment in U S military history. General Ridgway condemned the alleged systematic abuse of prisoners.
The 60 nation assembly approved a Western backed resolution condemning North Korean and Chinese Communist abuses in Korea by a 42 to 5 vote with 10 abstentions. The text批 calls out murder torture and mutilation of UN personnel and civilians and affirms respect for international law and human rights.

The eighth ship bringing American aid to East Germany and free Berlin arrived in Bremen. The 8,228 ton American Shipper carried 845 tons of canned beef skimmed milk and beans to support needy fairs and Berlin relief efforts.
A giant tornado carved a 100 mile zig zag path through central Louisiana killing at least eight and injuring twenty. Communications were down as police tallied casualties and the Weather Bureau warned of possible additional twisters in Mississippi.
Rep. Burdick of North Dakota said in Milwaukee that Senator McCarthy is not aiming for the presidency. He spoke after visiting Robert A. Dihlein of Jos. Schlitz Brewing Co. about their shared interest in Old West books and pictures. Madison briefs claim a 1953 Wisconsin law increasing retired teachers pensions to up to 25 dollars a month is constitutional. Attorney General Thomson supports the measure, which would place about 1061 teachers on a substitute roster to qualify for higher benefits.
A young South Korean prisoner of war at Panmunjom remained unreceptive to Allied explanations. A South Korean major offered promotions, treatment, and pardons, then played recordings of repatriates to urge return to the South. Secretary of State Zimmerman will accept Attorney General Thomson’s interpretation of the 1953 correction act to fix 1951 Rosenberry reapportionment errors.
