London December 1 Queen Alexandra plans a Christmas book titled The Queen's Christmas Carol to aid the unemployed. Poems stories sketches and music by prominent British figures including Sainehurne Austin Corelli Caine Pinero Alma Tadema Elgar and others will be contributed, with production practically gratuitous and the book sold for half a crown, proceeds to the queen's unemployed fund.
New York December 1 Justice Amend in the supreme court ordered the recount of ballots in five assembly districts for the contested mayoralty election to begin today. He narrowed the canvass to mayor comptroller and president of the board of aldermen and excluded void and protested ballots from the recount.
On the Midale river a pull boat burned killing nine of ten aboard. Sydney Wheat, the negro steward, survived by waking others. Wheat escaped death by being alerted during the blaze.
Knox county grand jury reported no indictments against Delta Kappa Epsilon members or group tied to the death of Stuart Pierson after a fatal incident during a fraternity initiation. The AP dispatch from Mt. Vernon notes the jury's decision concludes the local inquiry into the events surrounding the tragedy.

Charles F Ganzer an 81 year old longtime Oshkosh resident died this morning at his home 291 Central avenue from stomach cancer. A retired tailor born in Germany he came to the U S in 1854 and worked with Eckstein. Survived by wife and two children Warmer F and Ida HR Ganzer funeral Monday with services at 1 at the house and 2 at the Nebraska Street Lutheran church Rev Dowdlee officiating.
Ex congressman Isaac Stephenson of Marinette visited Oshkosh with his daughter Mrs J Earl Morgan. Rumors connect him to potential Wisconsin senate succession if R M La Follette resigns and possibly to the governorship if La Follette schemes fail. Local party sources provide unclear confirmation of any talks during the eight hour stay. Stephenson has backed La Follette campaigns and financed the La Follette organ in Milwaukee.

In Buffalo on December 1 Sheriff received a stay of sentence for Alonzo J. Whiteman who was convicted of grand larceny and sentenced to eight years at Auburn prison. An application to New York Justice Dickey and Justice Lambert in Fredonia had not been decided and would be withdrawn. A request to hold Boothman, convicted on a similar indictment, until papers arrive, was also received. Justice Lambert's refusal to grant certificates for Whiteman or Boothman was served on the sheriff this morning.
