Navy forms huge carrier to Formosa area
The United States Navy ordered the 45 000 ton carrier Midway to join six carriers with the 7th Fleet in the Formosa area. The Midway sailed from Honolulu with the heavy cruiser Los Angeles and will remain at strength for at least a week or two. Pacific forces have allowed jet pilots to pursue attacking Red planes across much of the Formosa Straits. The move comes as the State Department warns Beijing against threatening Quemoy and Matsu.
