Airliner crashes after takeoff injures many passengers
A Northwest Orient four engine airliner struck a wave fence and burst into flames after takeoff from Wold-Chamberlain Field. Sixty-one passengers escaped through a hole in the fuselage. At least 49 were hospitalized and one crew member lost a baby. The flight originated in Washington DC with stops in Pittsburgh Cleveland Detroit and Milwaukee before reaching Minneapolis.
