Seven Minneapolis firefighters were overcome by smoke at a blaze in the shaving shed of the C. A. Smith Lumber company. Two remained home for recovery while the rest returned to work after medical care. Loss estimated under 1200 dollars. The fire began in the largest shaving shed, threatening the entire plant.
A fire at the Beaumont hotel in Green Bay early today caused about 20 000 in damage and claimed the life of Henry the eighteen year old hotel engineer. Flames started from gasoline fumes and quickly engulfed the engine room and servants quarters. Guests escaped with no injuries.
Lon Strathcona, Canada’s lord high commissioner, left New York on the Oceanic en route from Montreal to London. He would not reveal reasons for the hurried departure. He predicted Canada may soon exceed the U S in population and noted Northwestern Canada as a vast agricultural region. Last year the northwest shipped a million bushels of wheat and two million bushels of other crops.
